As a musical video greeting card site, FredGrams.com celebrates every major holiday (and virtually every imaginable occasion) in song. Naturally, this includes that most patriotic moment on the American calendar, Independence Day, aka Fourth of July, Fireworks Day, the occasion of America’s Declaration of Independence. We have always been a singing people, and our favorite patriotic songs (all FredGrams!) provide a running account of our history: “Yankee Doodle,” “Star Spangled Banner,” “America (My Country ‘Tis Of Thee)”, America The Beautiful,” George M. Cohan’s “Yankee Doodle Boy/Grand Old Flag” and, Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America.” Alas, the latter, unofficially our second National Anthem, is not in public domain, so at the moment, it is not yet included among the FredGrams song treasury.

There is a multitude of musical ways to wish friends and family a Happy Fourth of July. Our Pledge of Allegiance provides a common expression of loyalty to our American heritage. What Fourth of July parade does not include Sousa’s “Stars And Stripes Forever?!” One’s sense of gratitude for being American is enhanced by the warm weather and all the special memories, associations and joys of summer: “Take Me Out To The Ballgame,” “In The Good Old Summertime.” The beautiful Shaker song “Simple Gifts” is presented as a MidSummer meditation, visually brought to life through the idyllic summer scenes of New England artist Winslow Homer.

There is so much for which to be grateful; being free and American rightfully tops any list of blessings. These American songs bring it all alive for us, year after year.

That said (and sung), we wish you a most gratitude-filled, Happy Independence Day!
