In Act II of Pyotr Tchaikovsky/Maurice Petipa's "Nutcracker Ballet" (1892), Clara and her nutcracker-turned-Prince visit his kingdom, The Land Of Sweets. They are greeted by the Sugar Plum Fairy who has watched over the kingdom in the Prince's absence. In honor of Clara having saved the Prince's life in his duel with the Mouse King, a celebration of sweets and other exotic delicacies is presented. Here, the delicacy is the Sugar Plum Fairy herself.
